Krewe of Mung Beans 2024
City Park, New Orleans, LA.
The Krewe of Mung Beans returns for the Dead Beans parade.
This year, we were joined by the local Filipino community, the Woodlawn Lion Dance Team, and Thao Nguyen of (now formerly) Thao and the Get Down Stay Down. Thao performed an intimate show a few days earlier at a friend’s house which was quite amazing.
Some other observations:
At one of the stops, the Lucha Krewe invited the lion dance team to join them for a dance. It was chaotic but I managed to capture one of my favorite photos of the entire day.
I drank way less beer this time and mostly opted for tequila shots. This resulted in zero trips to the restroom (and the need to find one).
I actually had some “throws” to give out this year but none were specifically made for this parade. Maybe next year…
Near the end of the parade, someone had a small roll of firecrackers and said something along the lines of “I’m not carrying this all the way here just to not light it up”. I had my reservations about it but hey, it was also Lunar New Year and we have a lion dance team, so why not?
A great day overall. The weather was amazing and the vibes were immaculate. I went to the Orpheus parade right after and this time, the Leviathan float didn’t catch on fire.
